Things To Consider When Choosing a Carrier:
1. Are they a carrier (like us) or a broker or freight forwarder. Which would you rather deal with, the truck driver and his dispatch or a third-party coordinator with a computer and a telephone?
2. What kind of safety record do they have? The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration maintains a website where this information is available. But beware; some companies change their name to hide their history.
3. Are there Cancellation or Change Fees? Or any other 'SURPRISES'? Many customers are flexible in their shipping/receiving schedule to take advantage of lower rates. We don't charge you anything until your freight is moving. And then only the agreed rate. No suprises.
4. How long will it take to move my freight? Some things "...need to go RIGHT NOW!" while other items are flexible. The cliche, "Time is Money" is appropriate here. The faster you need it -- the more it will usually cost.
5. Will my freight get moved from one trailer to another during transit? Not with us. Once it gets loaded on one of our trucks it stays there until final delivery. Even if it travels on one of our partner-carriers, we do not allow transfering the load off it's original trailer.
6. How do you handle damages or freight claims? The feds require all motor carriers have a minimum $5,000 cargo insurance. We carry a minimum $100,000 coverage for most loads and can increase our limits in the event of a special situation.
